Getting Started with Art Price Lab
Art Price Lab is a pricing calculator for working artists. It runs three pricing methods at once: square inch, linear span, and time plus materials. Shows you where they land relative to each other. That convergence is your pricing range. You pick a number from inside it.
Here's how to get started.
Create your account
Go to artpricelab.com and sign up with your email. Your first 7 days are free. No card required.
Enter your first piece
Once you're in, go to the calculator. You'll enter a few things:
- The dimensions of the piece (height and width in inches)
- Your medium
- What you spent on materials for that piece
- How long it took you
Art Price Lab pulls location-based wage data to suggest an hourly rate that reflects your cost of living. You can use the suggestion or set your own.
None of these inputs have to be exact to be useful. A good estimate beats a precise number you paralyzed yourself to get.
Read your results
You'll see three numbers: one from each pricing method. When all three land close together, the middle of that range is your number. When they diverge, the gap is telling you something specific about the piece.
See How to Read Your Results for the full walkthrough.
Set your multiplier
Your multiplier is the per-square-inch or per-linear-inch rate used in the formula. It scales with your career stage. Art Price Lab gives you a starting point.
See How to Set Your Multiplier when you're ready to tune it.
Most artists are through setup in under ten minutes. If you get stuck, the FAQ covers the most common questions.
